Vision

As a result of the Ovid-Elsie Area Schools Comprehensive and Developmental School Counseling Program (CDSCP), all students will become lifelong learners, will become productive members of a diverse workforce, and will able to use the social and emotional skills that they have learned to nurture their own mental health and wellbeing as well as the mental health and wellbeing of others.

Mission

The mission of the Ovid-Elsie Area Schools CDSCP is to equip students with the skills that they need to become lifelong learners, whether their studies are focused in academia, a trade, the military, or another career. Further, the Ovid-Elsie Area Schools CDSCP will provide students with the skills that they need to become productive members of society and the workforce, here in Michigan and across the United States and on a global level. Lastly, as a result of the Ovid-Elsie Area Schools CDSCP, students will receive the skills that they need to become lifelong learners of themselves and their mental health and wellbeing and will understand how to empower others to do the same.

Goals

The counselors at Ovid-Elsie Area Schools believe that:

  • All students have dignity and worth.

  • All students can achieve academic, career, and social/emotional success when given appropriate and timely support and interventions as well as rigorous and relevant instruction.

  • All students have the right to participate in the school counseling program.

  • All students deserve to be members of a school community that is culturally compassionate and that celebrates their unique qualities.

  • All students’ ethnic, cultural, and racial differences and special needs are considered in the planning and implementation of the school counseling program.

  • All students will have equitable access to a comprehensive school counseling program administered by a licensed school counselor.

  • All students can learn to become self-advocates and resilient in facing life’s challenges.

  • The school counselor will advocate for all students.

  • The school counselor will use data to design, implement, evaluate and continuously improve the comprehensive school counseling program.

  • The school counselor will collaborate with families, stakeholders, and community resources to meet student needs and assist student development.

  • The school counselor will abide by ASCA’s Ethical Standards for School Counselors.
