8th Grade Scheduling

All 8th graders were given a presentation by our high school counselor about how to register for classes next year (woohoo, freshman year!).  If you are an online student or were absent for the presentation, this is where you can find all of the information you need to secure classes for next year.

Step #1

Required Courses

Here is a PDF with a list of all the courses required for each year of high school.  This is broken down by year and ensures you will get every required class needed for graduation.

Here is a graduation worksheet, which will also help you keep things organized for the next 4 years.  Great tools to keep on hand!!

Rotations

Something special about 9th grade is that you will have rotations during your first semester, this makes sure that you are able to get all of the classes you need, while also giving you the option of taking electives.  The way this works is that you will have to decide if you want your rotations during 1st & 2nd period OR 3rd and 4th period.

What's a rotation?  Good Question!

Three of your required classes: English 1A, Comm 130, and World History A will all be assigned to you during your two hour rotation, you will take one of those classes for 2 hours a day for approximately 6 weeks and then switch to the next one.  (This means you don't have to list these three on your schedule, just write "ROTATION" in the 2 hours you want to take your rotation classes)

Prerequesites

You must take either "Physical Education", "Female Strength", or "Freshman Strength" first semester in order to take "Sports & Rec" second semester.

You cannot choose classes listed on the PDF under 10-12 grade.

Wood Shop 1 needs to be taken BEFORE Wood Shop 2, same with art, etc.

Step #2

Master Schedule

Here is our 2020-2021 Master Schedule to show you what electives will be offered and when classes will be available.  The best way to determine your rotation is to pick your electives and then decide when to do the rotation based on when your electives are (if you want to take wood shop 1st period and art 2nd period, you will need to do your rotation 3rd & 4th periods).

If you are a band student, band is ALWAYS 4th period so you MUST do your rotation during 1st & 2nd periods.

Write It Down!

Use this great template to write down what classes you are taking each period.  This is perfect for getting your thoughts down on paper.  Make sure you are crossing of each class you have on the list of required classes so you don't miss anything!  REMEMBER: There are no rotations during the second semester, so you will have to write down English 1B and World History B in separate periods.

There is also a spot for you to pick "alternate" electives.  This is so that if your first choice elective is full, the counselor will know what your second or third choice is rather than just putting you in something random.

Register Online

An email will be sent out from the high school counselor to every 8th grade student.  This will include instructions on registering for classes using a Google Form.  Make sure you have that template with your classes written down so you know what to register for!  Classes are FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE, so if you want specific electives, you will want to be on the lookout for this email and do it immediately.
